We are a Myobrace® / Vivos-Integrated provider treating kids between the ages of 3 and 13 years old, to help them with the development of their jaw and airway to prevent a number of conditions that can occur if left untreated. If started early, braces may not be needed to straighten the teeth at the end in many cases.
What is Myobrace?
Myobrace is a removable appliance used in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT). The Myobrace treatment process focuses on correcting abnormal growth and development of the jaws, face and airways. Phase One of the process begins with treating children in the 3- to 6-year-old range who have Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs). We then move onto phase Two which expands to using a different appliance to continue the treatment process. After all the teeth are in place and the jaws are developed properly, Phase Three then focuses on the teeth and occlusion.
What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is used to treat various oral myofunctional disorders which are conditions that exert pressures against oral structures that lead to the disruption of normal muscle patterns, thus negatively impacting growth and development of head and neck. The OMT involves a series of exercises used to re-pattern and optimize oral and facial functions. It is a neuromuscular re-education of the muscles involved in swallowing, chewing and mandibular posture using specific exercises targeting certain muscle groups. OMT uses behavior modification by introducing and habituating static and dynamic coordinated patterns that promote stable and correct oral postures.
Common Oral Myfunctional Disorders Include:
- Damaging oral habits (thumbsucking or nail biting)
- Lack of proper lip seal when the jaw is at rest
- Chronic mouth breathing
- Forward tongue and head posture
- Increased vertical freeway space
- Aberrant swallowing patterns (tongue thrusts) and tongue-ties.
- Sleep Related Breathing Disorders
